Our ongoing mission in Chad is now focused on rebuilding the school left ruined by poverty and devastated by the flooding rains that followed in the Fall.

Dear Ama Vang and the Viet Tộc family,
First of all, I respectfully wish Ama and the Viet Tộc family good health, peace, and an abundance of God’s grace.
Dear Father and the Viet Tộc family,
Last week, Father Thomas and I visited Ngara Jerusalem village prior to the start of the construction project to rebuild and renovate the school and to provide clean water for the village. In this project, we proposed the construction of two new classrooms, the renovation of two existing classrooms, and the installation of two clean-water wells (one newly drilled well and one repaired well).
Through discussions and a meeting with the village elders and catechists, the project has been adjusted as follows:
Regarding the water well:
The well located near the church has been severely damaged. The community now wishes to relocate and drill a new well closer to the school so that it will be more convenient for students’ daily use. The surrounding villages will also be able to use this water source, and it will be especially helpful during school construction, ensuring sufficient water for daily activities and building work.
– According to the original plan, the new well was to be drilled within the church compound.

The existing well located in the center of the village will remain and will be repaired.
Dear Ama and the Viet Tộc family,
One sad reality we witnessed during this visit is that the old school building in the village—part of the renovation project—was completely destroyed by heavy rainfall. Ba-illi is known for being inaccessible during the rainy season: roads become impassable, with no way in or out. I personally experienced this situation when returning from Cameroon to Chad last October.
I would like to share with Ama and the Viet Tộc family images of the school in Ngara Jerusalem that was destroyed by the heavy rains:

From first grade through ninth grade, children from this remote village must walk nearly three miles along this road each day to get to school. Most come from homes with very little furniture and often little food in the kitchen. They once looked forward to a simple free lunch before afternoon classes, but that food program is no longer available.
I am deeply grateful for the dedication of the Sisters of St. Paul, who have opened a boarding home for high school girls. There is so much for these young people to catch up on—socially, psychologically, and intellectually.
Thank you, Viet Toc benefactors, for being part of the healing journey through education. Because of you, these children can begin to dream.
Từ lớp Một đến lớp Chín, các em học sinh ở ngôi làng vùng sâu này mỗi ngày phải đi bộ gần 5 cây số trên con đường này để đến trường. Phần lớn các em đến từ những gia đình nghèo, trong nhà hầu như không có đồ đạc và bếp thường thiếu lương thực. Trước đây, các em từng mong chờ bữa ăn trưa đơn sơ miễn phí trước giờ học buổi chiều, nhưng chương trình hỗ trợ lương thực ấy nay đã không còn.
Tôi hết lòng tri ân sự dấn thân đầy yêu thương của các Nữ tu Thánh Phaolô, những người đã khởi xướng và chăm sóc nhà nội trú dành cho các em nữ sinh trung học. Các em còn rất nhiều điều cần được bù đắp và nâng đỡ—về mặt xã hội, tâm lý và tri thức.
Xin chân thành cảm ơn quý ân nhân Việt Tộc đã trở thành một phần của hành trình chữa lành qua con đường giáo dục. Nhờ quý vị, các em nhỏ hôm nay có thể bắt đầu ước mơ.
